The Black Diamond Labor Day celebration kicked off Saturday with the Doggie Days event the the Coal Kart Derby on Lawson Street.

The Black Diamond Labor Day celebration kicked off Saturday with the Doggie Days event the the Coal Kart Derby on Lawson Street.

Competing in the Coal Kart Derby were Tanner Claggett, 11, Kenny Jensen, 11 and Hunter Kirsch, 12 in one kart.

In the second kart were Shane Flink, 16, and Jake Opel, 15.

The events continue through the weekend with a pie baking contest, games, entertainment and a parade.

Schedule of events

Sunday, Sept. 5

  • 10 a.m.-noon Pie baking contest

    Turn pies in between 10-10:30 a.m. to be judged

  • 10:30 a.m. Children and women games

    Black Diamond Elementary School play field (straw scramble, pie eating contest, watermelon eating contest, nail pounding, toilet paper unrolling and mummy wrap)

  • 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Booths and inflatables
