The city of Maple Valley is recruiting applicants for the Economic Development Committee (EDC) and the Planning Commission.

The EDC reviews and recommends to the City Council activities that will further economic development within the City of Maple Valley. The EDC also assists with implementation of programs and objectives identified on the EDC Work Plan approved by the City Council. The Committee meets on Mondays at 4 p.m., currently once a month, at the Lake Wilderness Lodge. The committee has seven voting members, two alternates and two ex-officio members. This recruitment is for three positions that expire in December 2009. Applicants living within city boundaries will receive first priority consideration for appointment; however, applicants who live outside City boundaries may also be considered for appointment.

The City Council seeks to include a diverse and balanced cross section of Maple Valley residents and commercial interests as members of the EDC. Members are appointed to two-year terms.

The city is also seeking applicants for an alternate to the Planning Commission. The duties of the alternate include attending meetings as regularly as possible and maintaining familiarity with the issues before the Planning Commission so that he/she will be prepared to fill an unanticipated vacancy. The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. the first and third Wednesdays of each month, with occasional special meetings and workshops.

In order to qualify for this appointment, individuals must be residents of, own property in, or own a business within the city of Maple Valley. Alternate members serve a term of two years.

Applications for either the EDC or Planning Commission are available on the city’s Web site, www.ci.maple-valley.wa.us, or at Maple Valley City Hall, 22035 SE Wax Road, Suite 5 from the City Clerk’s office. You may also request that an application be mailed to you by calling City Hall at 425-413-8800. The applications deadline has been extended to Dec. 18. It is anticipated that interviews will be conducted in January.
