A new event being planned by the Covington Chamber of Commerce called the Taste of Covington is slated for Aug. 20.

The event will feature selections from restaurants, wineries and breweries around Covington.

It is being planned by Cathy Wahlin and Rick Oliveira from the chamber.

They created it as a way of showcasing the various establishments in Covington and to give residents a chance to sample food in one area.

According to Wahlin, they came up with the idea several months ago while discussing the chamber’s annual dinner auction. The location of the Taste of Covington and time has yet to be determined.

So far, 2seven2 Bar and Grill has signed up to host a beer garden.

Wahlin said the chamber is currently looking for both vendors to participate and volunteers to distribute fliers advertising the event.

“We have a lot of new people coming to Covington,” said Carlos Cortez, co-owner of 2seven2. “We want people to know Covington is getting bigger.”

Wahlin stated that the event would be free to those who attend. She also said she hopes to get restaurants from other cities to participate.

To participate in the event, a vendor must obtain a food permit and inspection from the King County Health Department, a liquor license from the state Liquor Board if they are selling alcoholic beverages and a fire inspection from the city of Covington if they plan to have a booth or tent.

A vendor tent is $75 for a chamber member and $150 for a nonmember.

Those interested in volunteering or participating can contact Wahlin 253-315-1758 or Oliveira at 253-639-3252.
