As summer heats up, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is releasing campfire safety public service announcements.

The agency is issuing wildfire prevention PSAs voiced by Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark. Commissioner Goldmark encourages the public to help prevent wildfires by using caution with campfires and by observing burn bans and other restrictions on outdoor burning.

The radio public service announcements are available in 15- and 30-second versions:

DNR is also issuing a 30-second video that encourages the public to prevent wildfires by checking for burn bans, never letting a campfire burn unattended, and drowning a fire until it’s out cold, before leaving it behind. It can be viewed at https://youtu.be/ZMonXoBxMt8.

Before engaging in outdoor activities in Washington’s forests and wildlands, DNR advises checking with state and local authorities to be aware of burn bans and other fire restrictions in place around the state. DNR currently has a burn ban in place on DNR-protected lands in eastern Washington.

A professional-quality version of the video is available on request.
