While most chambers of commerce struggle through their annual membership drive, the Maple Valley-Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce has something else planned.

For two and a half days starting Tuesday, more than 80 volunteers will work against the clock and against each other to sign up new chamber members. Business owners and managers will be out in the community clad in odd clothing, driving unusual vehicles and ringing cowbells.

The event is organized by a group called Your Chamber Connection, whose specialty is high-energy membership campaigns that allow volunteers to have fun while building the membership base for the chamber.

“It’s about business,” said event organizer Jimmy Cusano. “The chamber is the business community. This brings everyone together to build the chamber. When others hear about everything the chamber does, all of a sudden you have a great deal of enthusiasm and support.”
