The state Board of Natural Resources has approved the transfer of just over 1,267 acres of state trust land to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW). The property, mainly a mix of forest and grazing land, is in the Stemilt-Squilchuck Watershed and located about 6 miles south of Wenatchee.

The funds for WDFW to acquire the trust property are provided through legislative appropriations to the Trust Land Transfer (TLT) Program. The transfer will provide $500,000 for DNR to purchase replacement lands more suitable for producing long-term revenue for the school construction trust. The Common School Trust had already been compensated for the value of timber on the land through a Board decision two years ago.

Yesterday afternoon’s public meeting of the Board was a special session to conclude remaining business before the end of the 2013 Fiscal Year on June 30.
