Bedroom fire causes $25,000 in damages | Kent Regional Fire Authority

At 1:15 p.m. Oct. 16 a neighbor, in the 12900 block of S.E. 257 Street, called 911 and reported smoke from the upstairs window of his next door neighbor’s house and that nobody is home.

At 1:15 p.m. Oct. 16 a neighbor, in the 12900 block of S.E. 257 Street, called 911 and reported smoke from the upstairs window of his next door neighbor’s house and that nobody is home.

Kent Regional Fire Authority emergency units were dispatched and arrived within 5 minutes and reported smoke, but no flames, was visible from the upstairs window.

The fire crew forced entry into the residence and were able to quickly extinguish a small fire in the upstairs bedroom. Fire crews searched the structure for hidden fire and found none.

The Kent fire investigator determined the cause to be an unattended flame which ignited nearby combustibles. The fire was ruled as accidental. Smoke and heat damage to the residence was limited to the one bedroom with damages estimated at $25,000. The family has not been displaced by the fire.

No injuries to residents or firefighter were reported.
