Two juveniles arrested for alleged arson at Cedar Valley Elementary

A pair of juveniles were arrested following an alleged arson attempt at Cedar Valley Elementary School.

Police received an arson report at 3:11 a.m. on Sept. 4 at the school, located at 26500 Timberlane Way SE. Covington Police Chief Kevin Klason said investigators found that two male subjects, ages 11 or 12, threw a rock through the school window and then lit paper on fire, tossing it through the broken glass. Klason said there was minimum damage to the school since the fire extinguished itself after burning through the paper. Klason the juveniles also allegedly threw rocks through a window at Jenkins Creek Elementary on the same night. Klason said both boys were booked into the King County Juvenile Detention Center, being held on charges that include arson and malicious mischief.

Police also responded to a separate arson report at Jenkins Creek Park at 8:22 p.m. on Sept. 4, in reference to a picnic table that was lit on fire. The Kent Fire Department extinguished the blaze. No arrests were made for that fire.
