As it has since it opened in 1997, Tahoma National Cemetery will host a Memorial Day ceremony in honor of Americans who have died in military service to their nation.

The event next Monday will begin at noon. It will feature representatives of the military and veterans’ organizations, a flyover by the Navy aircraft, music by the Bellevue Community Band, and dignitaries. The latter will include Governor Christine Gregoire, according to Jim Trimbo, the cemetery manager.

Preparations began Wednesday with flags being placed on the grounds by students from Tahoma Junior High School and Federal Way High School. The latter sent Junior ROTC members.

In addition to gravesites of veterans, including two Medal of Honor recipients, Tahoma National has 23 memorials commemorating soldiers of 20th-century wars. The cemetery is supported by more than 200 volunteers locally.
