A Metropolitan King County Council has proposed updates to the county’s comprehensive plan, the policies used by the county to help manage growth in unincorporated areas.

The plan was first adopted under the State Growth Management Act in 1994. Technical changes can be made annually, with major updates conducted every four years. The latest proposed updates are in that category.

The proposals, which require full council approval before taking effect, emerged partly from the comments of more than 200 citizens at public hearings in the past five months, according to Councilman Larry Gossett, chairman of the council’s Growth Management and Natural Resources Committee.

Annexations, transportation and the environment are among issues covered in the comprehensive plan.
