The seventh annual American Sign Language Music Project by Kentlake High School will take place May 29-31 at the Kentlake Performing Arts Center at 21401 SE Falcon Way.

ASL teacher Kathy Underhill created this annual event and was recognized for her vision by the Covington Chamber of Commerce who named her the 2013 Teacher of the Year.

“This project showcases students from all levels of ASL and brings a new perspective about the arts and music to the audience,” said Underhill. “It will be a great cross-cultural event for hearing and deaf participants.”

ASL students from Kentlake High School will perform contemporary music live on stage.

The entire event is signed using ASL with short videos between each performance. The event will have a voice interpreter for the “signing impaired.”

Thursday evening’s proceeds will be donated to the Sertoma Club (Washington chapter) which is dedicated to deaf youth and deaf education in the south Seattle area. Through education and support, they endeavor to improve the quality of life for those at risk of or impacted by hearing loss.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students and are available at Brown Paper Tickets.
