The 51-year-old man shot by Issaquah Police Saturday, Sept. 24 was identified by the King County Medical Exmainer's Office as Ronald W. Ficker.

The 51-year-old man shot by Issaquah Police Saturday, Sept. 24 was identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office as Ronald W. Ficker.

Ficker was shot by police Saturday after he fired a rifle at both police officers and pedestrians near Clark Elementary in Issaquah.

Police received phone calls around 11 a.m. Saturday morning reporting that a man was pointing a rifle at pedestrians at the intersection of Front Street and Newport Way after leaving his 2011 Kia sedan in the middle of the road.

According to a press release by King County Sheriff spokesperson Sgt. John Urquhart, Ficker fired the rifle after an unsucessful attempt to break into an unoccupied car in the elementary’s parking lot.

When police officers confronted him, he went prone and fired his rifle. Officers returned fire and hit him. Ficker died at the scene.

Ficker’s motive is unknown at this time.
