Cory Allyn Duke of Renton pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and reckless endangerment at the Kent Regional Justice Center Aug. 10.

Duke, 19, was charged in April after a vehicle he was driving crashed Dec. 28, 2010 along Sweeney Road SE near Maple Valley. One of the passengers, Shelby Lee, 17, was sitting in the front passenger seat and sustained fatal injuries when the right side of the vehicle struck a fire hydrant. Two other passengers in the vehicle were unharmed.

According to the charging papers, Duke admitted he had been driving around 75 mph in a 40 mph speed limit when the accident occurred.

King County prosecutors suspected Duke’s driving had a direct correlation with Lee’s death.

The sentence range is 15 to 20 months in prison.

Duke will be sentenced 1 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, courtroom 3B.
