Kate Brabham knows how to throw a birthday party, and it all ended up going to the dogs and cats.
When Kate turned 7-years-old on March 26 she told her friends to come to a party, but there was a catch.
“She asked everyone to not buy her gifts,” Karen Brabham said, Kate’s mother. “She asked for pet food or donations for the (King County) Humane Society.”
The party was quite a success with 13 children attending, Kate received 200 pounds of pet food and $60.
Kate and her mother went shopping after the party and delivered 500 pounds and a $20 check to the humane society in Bellevue.
“After I bought all the stuff we just loaded everything up in the car and drove off,” Kate said.
Karen Brabham said Kate attends Glacier Park Elementary. Being a community contributor is encouraged at the school and her daughter took the concept to heart.
Kate has pets at home including a beagle, two cats, two Guinea pigs, two frogs, one crayfish and she is babysitting a pet rat.
When she grows up she would, “like to take care of pets and any stray pets I will put up for adoption and if no one adopts them I will keep them.”
Kate said she has been interested in animals, “my whole life.”
