‘Music in the Park’ kicks off Friday at Lake Wilderness

Maple Valley Parks and Recreation Department’s “Music in the Park” starts tomorrow with the first of five concerts this summer featuring local, regional and national-caliber bands in the Lake Wilderness Park amphitheater.

Maple Valley Parks and Recreation Department’s “Music in the Park” starts tomorrow with the first of five concerts this summer featuring local, regional and national-caliber bands in the Lake Wilderness Park amphitheater.

First up is Reggie Garrett and the Snake Oil Peddlers. Their show, scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow, will feature acoustic folk music incorporating a latin rhythms, blues, gospel and Celtic stylings.

Garrett, a guitarist who grew up amid folk/rock/gospel music, and his group perform throughout the Northwest.

The rest of the park series lineup includes:

• Nathan Chance, July 24, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Group’s country music has a rock/blues edge.

• West Seattle Big Band, Aug. 7, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Eighteen-piece swing and jazz band is headed by vocalist Stephanie Cortez, who sings classic swing and torch numbers from the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s. The band donate its earnings to school music programs in the West Seattle area.

• Burgers and Blues Night with the Night Train Blues Band, Aug. 17, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Four-piece band plays gritty Texas and Chicago-style blues.

• Groove House Band, Aug. 28, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Rock cover band hails from the Seattle-Puget Sound area. Following the concert, the feature film “Ratatouille” will be shown.
