Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra offers summer camp

The Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra will be offering a summer camp for $10.

The camp is scheduled for Aug. 10 – 14. The camp will have the theme of Movie Music and provide campers with two or more years of playing experience the opportunity to explore and play music from their favorite movies.

“The camp is a great recruiting opportunity for the MVYSO,” says April Whyte, the conductor of the MVYSO.

The MVYSO has doubled its size this past season and hopes to continue its growth and round out its instrumentation by giving kids a chance to try out the orchestra in a short term commitment. “We also wanted to provide an affordable option for students and parents this summer,” Whyte said. “Times are tough and summer gets expensive. We don’t want finances to get in the way of a great summer music camp experience.

Part of the MVYSO’s success has been due to their policy never to turn away a willing student based on inability to pay.

The MVYSO camp experience will include performances and workshops by professional musicians, fun music, a chance to meet and make friends with fellow musicians and fun and games.
