Kentlake seniors competed in the Boyd Coffee ProStart Invitational March 13 at South Seattle Community College.

The team captain was Zac Coltes and the team members included

Michael McCamey, Bonnie Chow and Brian Currington.

Kentlake teacher Cecelia Stec and mentor chef Denise Onorati from the Grape Adventure restaurant and wine bar in Kent were the team’s coaches.

Onarati said the students had been preparing for the competition for more than two months. For the past two weeks the students came to school at 6 a.m. to work before classes.

The menu included chicken spinach ravioli with lemon cream sauce for an appetizer, seared halibut with blood orange salsa as the entree and sunrise mousse for dessert.

The students had about 50 minutes to prepare the dishes on two propane burners with no running water and no electricity.

This is the 10th year for the Boyd Coffee ProStart Invitational and 22 high schools from the region competed.
