Jazz benefit showcases Tahoma High choir and band | slide show

The Tahoma High School jazz choir and jazz band performed Friday evening at the high school commons for the jazz benefit. The Maple Valley Creative Arts Council sponsored the event and all proceeds went to the choirs and band.

The choir preformed a wide array of songs including jazz standards like “All of Me” and “Fly Me to the Moon.” The choirs also sang arrangements of “Blackbird” and “California Dreaming.”

The performances of the choir were excellent and included impressive scat solos.

The choir was followed by the jazz band performing fine arrangements of “Topsy,” “Who Let The Cats In,” “Out of the Doghouse,” “Witchcraft” and “Abaco.”

The jazz band was in top form with excellent solos.

Choir members in the soprano section were Taunie Chenoweth, Lindsey Habenicht, Kristen Jacobson, Tate Latimer and Janelle Waldram. Listed as alto singers were Hannah Fiskum, Heather McKinlay, Megan Moorehead and Rina Wulfing. Tenors were Matt Clayson, Kevin Davis, Josh Simon and Nathan Trotter. Christian Holden and Dmitriy Yarynych were listed as bass singers.

On bass guitar was Kevin Davis and drums Matt Whatcott.

Soloist were Latimer, Simon, Davis, Trotter, Waldram and Fiskum.

The choir was directed by Den Riggs.

In the saxophone section for the band was Allison Haun, Clara Tibbets, Erin McKinlay, Amanda Corey, Saibra Rubadue , Troy Odstrcil and Megan Odstrcil.

In the brass section was Daniel Burt, Harrison Karlewicz, Brandon Gage, Michael French, Connor Durkin, Jennifer Watt and Austin Walton.

In the percussion section was Kevin Davis, Prescott Morley, Desmond Decker and Brandon Clem.
