For its spring production this weekend, Ensemble Ballet Theatre has been preparing for a fight.

The Maple Valley troupe has been taking stage combat courses for realistic swordfight scenes in “Pirates: One Night of Adventure,” which is one of three shows planned for May 3 at 7:30 p.m. and 4 at 2:30 p.m. at Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center. The dancers sparred with blunted swords, under the supervision of Bob Borwick, a certified fight director. Borwick has choreographed or taught for ACT, Empty Space, Taproot, Seattle Repertory Theatre and Seattle Public Theater.
