Vote yes on school bond | Letter to the editor

I am impressed with the projected direction of the Tahoma schools especially the educational specifications for the new high school. Much of my career was spent calling on the vocational departments of high schools in the Northwest and Alaska. I observed the difference that can be accomplished when students have a choice of career direction and find a program that fits their talents. The school systems that had multi-path programs available turned out more successful graduates than those who didn’t. In the past 20 years these programs have been decimated by budget cuts and graduation rates have suffered.

The management side of my career required hiring capable employees that needed vocational experience. The program that the Tahoma administration is proposing will address both the college bound plus the larger group who will never complete a degree or attend a college. The bond measure is the only way this can be accomplished as well as solving deferred maintenance and the overcrowding of the current buildings. I urge all of you to support the upcoming bond.
