Tahoma National Cemetery receives donated funds to replace stolen bronze plaques commemorating veterans | Letter

The Tahoma National Cemetery Support Group (TNCSG), through the generosity of the community, including private citizens and local businesses, has received enough funds to replace the plaques stolen and damaged last Thanksgiving weekend at Tahoma National Cemetery. Although the stolen plaques were never recovered, King County Sheriff’s department pledges to remain vigilant in its investigation and to bring those involved to justice.

As director of Tahoma National Cemetery, I want to personally thank the community and TNCSG for their help with mitigating the vandalism that desecrated our national cemetery. I am continually heartened by the strong support and commitment to our Veterans received from the surrounding communities at this cemetery.

TNCSG is working with a local monument company currently in the process of fabricating the new plaques. Four of the 11 stolen plaques will be delivered prior to Memorial Day and the remainder will be installed by the end of the summer. The three damaged plaques will also be replaced and all the plaques along the cemetery’s Memorial Walkway, including the 15 undamaged plaques, will be recessed into the granite base to prevent this from happening in the future.

Thank you for all you do for our Veterans and remember our fallen heroes.
