Proud to vote for school levies | Robert R. Smart

I would like to comment on Brandon Hawbaker comments in the Jan. 22 edition (of the Reporter). Brandon, do you even have any children? If so have you been to their schools lately? Maybe things have changed since my kids went to school.

I would like to comment on Brandon Hawbaker comments in the Jan. 22 edition (of the Reporter). Brandon, do you even have any children? If so have you been to their schools lately? Maybe things have changed since my kids went to school. However, I doubt it. The schools do the best they can with very limit money. I for one realize that the schools need as much help as possible. My God, they’re teaching our children how to survive in the world. I, for one, do not think the teachers make enough money and schools have enough money to buy the best and latest equipment. I know many people who work, volunteer and support the schools and the teachers. Many of them tell me that the money is needed and we should vote yes. I already have, that’s right I’m not ashamed to let everyone know that I voted for the levy. Paying teachers to be parents? Where did that come from? I have never known any teacher who teaches or tries to be a parent to any student. Teachers are there to teach the basics so the children can further their education or get a job and be productive in society. You say that administrators are making excuses. Could it possibly be the truth and facts? I also have never heard of anyone saying that being a jock is conducive to teen pregnancy. What? You have got to be kidding. Any good parent would make sure that kids concentrate on school work first before any sport or school activity (such as chess club, cheer leading, band, etc.). What is wrong with being an entertainer? Why would any kid replace drugs for sports. If parents are doing their job and teach (that’s right teach) their kids properly. Kids will never want to drink, smoke or do drugs excessively. Maybe I miss understood your comments. If I did I’m sorry. I feel that teachers do not get paid enough and that schools will always need more money as long as the elected officials and school administrators tell us so. They’re the experts that know what’s best for our children.
