Power to change lives with one choice | Letter

I was a witness to the amazing power that one decision could make. My significant other was in great need of a liver transplant at the age of 29. After waiting for approximately one year, we received a phone call in January of 2009. Upon arriving at the hospital we waited for two days before the surgery.

I was a witness to the amazing power that one decision could make. My significant other was in great need of a liver transplant at the age of 29. After waiting for approximately one year, we received a phone call in January of 2009. Upon arriving at the hospital we waited for two days before the surgery. We were feeling many emotions at that time, the greatest being appreciation and love. We were and are so grateful to the family of the donor. Thanks to their son, Derek’s life has been lengthened.

At this time he is on the waiting list again, as the liver he received, unfortunately was damaged during the process of the surgery and was without blood for too long. It is such an amazing gift and will never be forgotten. The power of one person who donates their liver will/has forever changed Derek’s life.

One person has the power to restore lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. One donor can save or enhance over 50 lives, one family can make the most courageous decision; one hospital can make it possible for hundreds to have a second chance at life and one story can inspire dozens to take action. The Power of One touches so many. It takes only ONE to inspire, save lives, create hope, offer comfort, and be a champion.

I encourage everyone to register to become an organ, eye, and tissue donor and ask others to do the same at www.DonateLifeToday.com. When you do, you have the power to save or enhance the lives of more than 50 people through your gift.

April is National Donate Life Month. Register now. We each have the power to make a difference…one person at a time.
