Gordon has what we need | Letter to the editor

Dave Gordon is smart and capable. He has common sense and a variety of experience and he brings exactly what we need to the mayor’s office.

In response to one letter from last week, I must point out that we don’t need a volunteer, we need a businessperson. Dave would not have been fooled by the promises of a land developer that new population automatically brings revenue.

Dave Gordon and his many supporters know that you need to look deeper into the fine print. When you do, you realize that YarrowBay had to fudge the numbers to make them work.

Schools were brought up by last week’s letter. Adding hundreds of homes every year for 20 years guarantees anyone with young children now will have their entire student life messed up. The possible new schools will always lag, and they will be overcrowded the whole time. Enumclaw taxpayers will never bond the seven new schools YarrowBay would need, but if they do, we will have much higher property taxes. Living next to Tahoma, we have the poster child for what NOT to do with schools right next door. They have not passed a bond in 15 years, they have so many portables the fire department will not allow more, and if they do pass the current bond, their taxes will increase dramatically.

We must not accept ridiculously low school impact fees and we must not accept ridiculously fast growth. It is very important to note that the incumbent mayor openly advocated for the very low fees Yarro Bay got (which is) about half of what King County requires and one third of what the district’s study recommended.

I support Dave Gordon for mayor and the three common-sense city council candidates Erika Morgan, Janie Edelman, and Carol Benson.
