Kent School District educators and counselors have been invited by the Kent Chamber of Commerce to attend a field trip to a Kent Valley business to learn about local manufacturing and technical jobs available to students after graduation.
The Chamber’s “Educate the Educator” event shows career counselors and those who have direct contact with students how full the Kent Valley is with jobs that demand skills and yield family wage careers. The Chamber will demonstrate the opportunity that lies in this area for Kent youth, so that District educators and counselors will keep these careers in mind when counseling them about their futures.
“To successfully prepare all students for their futures, it is critical as educators—including principals, teachers, and counselors—that we understand the real world employer’s needs in a 21st Century global manufacturing environment,” said Superintendent Edward Lee Vargas.
Participants will regroup later to ascertain what specific structures and protocols should be created to enhance the college and career infrastructure within the District.
