At today’s Committee of the Whole, committee members:

  • Sent to the full Council with a “Do Pass” recommendation, a motion confirming the executive’s appointment of William Hayes as director of the department of adult and juvenile detention (Motion 2014-0354).
  • Discussed an ordinance continuing a temporary use permit for homeless encampments (Ordinance 2014-0424). No action was taken on the ordinance, which remains in committee.
  • Received a briefing from the Mockingbird Society on the agency’s Homeless Youth Initiative (Briefing No. 2014-0178).

 

At today’s Council meeting, Councilmembers:

  • Approved an ordinance addressing income inequality through a requirement that a living wage be paid to county employees and to the employees of certain county contractors (Substitute Ordinance 2014-0299.2)
  • Unanimously approved an ordinance declaring King County’s intent to assume the rights, powers, immunities, functions and obligations of the King County Ferry District (Ordinance 2014-0407).

 

REMINDER—The Council’s Budget and Fiscal Management Committee will hold its first special night meeting on the Executive Proposed 2015-2016 King County Budget on WEDNESDAY, October 8:
