Cops and smiling kids filled the aisles at the Covington Walmart Saturday, Dec. 11, during the Shop with a Cop event.
The program is designed to help children buy up to $50 of gifts. The event is for youths and families that would not otherwise have the means to buy Christmas presents for themselves or family members.
The money was raised mainly by the Maple Valley Rotary Club. According to Patti Jenson nearly 500 children were able to shop with either a King County Sheriff’s deputy, police officer from Maple Valley, Covington or Black Diamond or other police agency officials.
The Greater Maple Valley Community Center helped with organizing and coordinating the event.
Along with the Christmas gift program, the event also raised money and food donations for the Maple Valley Food Bank. Gifts were also donated to the food bank.
