Five adults, two children, and a dog have been displaced by a fire in their home in the 16100 block of SE 256 Place.

The fire was reported at about 11:30 pm last night. The entire family was alerted by one of the members and all were able to evacuate themselves safely from the home.

When firefighters arrived, they saw fire coming from the attached garage of the two-story home. Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire quickly though there was some fire spread into the areas near the garage and smoke damage was evident throughout the house. Multiple Kent units, Valley Regional Fire Authority, Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety, King County Medic One, and the Zone 3 Rehab unit responded to this call.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and there is no damage estimate at this time.

Due to the damage to the house the displaced family is receiving temporary housing assistance through the Red Cross.

Although initially alerted by a family member, the home owner did recall the fire alarms sounding off as they were evacuating.
