Mayor Margaret Harto received a Community Recognition Award from the Puget Sound Educational Service District as part of the Washington Association of School Administrators Honorary Awards program.

Dr. Dick Stedry, chief business officer at Kent School District and member of the Board of the Covington Chamber of Commerce, nominated her for the role she plays in Covington-area students’ lives. The award was presented to her in recognition of her contributions to education.

“Mayor Harto has given herself to her community and is invested in the success of the people of Covington,” said Kentlake Principal Joe Potts. “She paves the way for others and can be counted on to serve the children and good people of the greater Covington area.”

Harto was recognized for her leadership, success, and her collaboration with KSD.

“The community leaders we work with on a daily basis are crucial in our endeavors to see students achieve success,” said Superintendent Edward Lee Vargas. “Mayor Harto is one of our vital partners.”

The PSESD serves 35 school districts and more than 200 private schools in King and Pierce counties, including Kent School District.
