Celebrating Community was the theme of the day as more than 160 people gathered at the Greater Maple Valley Community Center Feb. 27 for the annual benefit.
The community center presented the Community First awards to Tina McDonough of Valley Girls and Guys and the Gary Habenicht family.
The awards recognize an individual and an organization that have made an “outstanding community service, public service or significant charitable or philanthropic contributions of benefit to the community.”
The breakfast was also an opportunity to celebrate the installation of a generator that will enable the center to serve as a warming center in the event of a cold weather emergency. The generator will also allow the center to provide shelter to displaced persons in the event of an earthquake or flood.
The $70,000 generator project was made possible through the generous contributions of the Employees Community Fund of Boeing Puget Sound, Puget Sound Energy, Flynn Development, the City of Maple Valley, King County and the Normand Archibald foundation.
