Tate Latimer clears hurdle for regional Junior Olympics

School may be out, but Tahoma High track star Tate Latimer is still in high gear.

Latimer ran second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.08 Sunday in the Pacific Northwest Association Junior Olympics at the Southwest Community Center stadium across from Chief Sealth High School.

Latimer’s time qualified her for the Region XIII Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships at Willamette University in Salem, Ore. July 9-12.

Latimer, running in lane eight, said the race was, “OK, but my start was not that great.”

The Tahoma senior also competed in the long jump for the first time in her track and field career. Latimer said she will not be moving to regional meet in the long jump, but she does plan to compete in the event next years during the ehigh-school season.

Latimer said she may also run in the 400-meter relay in Oregon.

She is training with the Flying AJ’s track and field club.
