Seahawks name Tahoma senior as Athlete of the Week

The Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink and KIRO Radio announced Nov. 13 that Karen Sullivan, Tahoma senior basketball player, as week nine’s CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week.

Sullivan will be recognized on the field during the Seahawks Dec. 2 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

According to a release from the Seahawks, Sullivan was selected as Athlete of the Week for “her leadership through athletics, academics and community action.”

Sullivan is the captain of the Bears and is “recognized on and off the court as being tenacious, ambitious and compassionate,” the release continued.

She is also the senior class treasurer and maintains a 3.99 GPA as well as being a member of the National Honor Society.

The release added Sullivan is enrolled in many AP classes and has recently received an AP Scholar Award for her “outstanding college-level achievements.”

During her free time, she prepares to study business in college — she hopes to attend the University of Washington. She is the president of Tahoma’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) association as well as the Gender Empowerment and Equality group.

Sullivan also volunteers her time at the Maple Valley Food Bank, police fundraisers and at her local church.

Each Athlete of the Week winners receive $1,000 grant to their school’s Athletic Department.
