A state title seemed like a plausible goal for the Tahoma boys and girls cross country teams last weekend in the Class 4A state meet at Pasco’s Sun Willows Golf Course.
They got off to a fast start, then hit a slight bump along the way. But the Kentwood High volleyball team still found itself in familiar territory last Friday evening in the Class 4A West Central District tournament at the Kitsap Sun Dome in Silverdale.
It was a 5-7-8 finish for the Tahoma boys cross country team this past Saturday, as the Bears ran to the Westside Classic 4A boys district meet title at American Lake Golf Course in Lakewood.
Stephanie Shumaker, a defensive specialist and setter for Kentwood High School, has signed a letter-of-intent to play volleyball next fall at Lewis-Clark State College.
Her signing by the college in Lewiston, Idaho, was announced today.
Shumaker helped Kentwood finish third in Washington’s 4A state high school volleyball tournament last year. This season, the team is undefeated.
Kentlake High sophomore Chelsea Bailey powered to victory in the 200-yard freestyle and also was second in the 500 free, both in state-qualifying time, in the South Puget Sound League 4A girls swimming championships last Saturday.
