Kentwood survived a five-game battle with Puyallup at home on Saturday to secure the West Central District’s No. 3 spot heading to the 4A state volleyball tournament.

Game scores were: 25-16, 25-18, 23-25, 19-25, 15-12.

Puyallup goes to state as the No. 4 seed.

Kentwood reached the semifinals, falling to Bellarmine Prep in three games, 25-20, 25-16, 25-17.

Auburn Riverside went on to dispatch Puyallup in the semifinals and Bellarmine Prep in the finals.

The first game of the state tournament for the Conks was today.

Kentwood won 3-1 and move on to play Curtis tonight at 5 p.m. in Kennewick.

Tahoma

The Bears won its first match 3-0 against Union during the WCD tournament at Kentwood.

Tahoma then fell 3-0 to Bellarmine Prep in the next round.

Winning its last two matches, 3-0 against Kent-Meridian and 3-1 against Auburn Mountainview on Nov. 5.

The Bears punched its ticket to the state tournament that began today in Kennewick.

Tahoma lost the first game 3-1 and at the time of this post was playing Puyallup in the second round.
