Tahoma Junior High clubs make going back to school bear-able | Caitlyn Casper

Even if students aren’t enjoying getting back in the school year routine, there are several clubs to get students engaged to make the year a bit more “Bear-able.”

Students in Tahoma Junior High School in Ravensdale woke up to a whole new school year ahead of them Sept. 3.

When I questioned ninth grader Macks Crofton, 14, about how he felt on the first day he said, “Bored, because I had to come back to classes.”

Eighth grader Ben Chamce, 13, said he felt, “nervous, I guess.”

On that note, I asked a few students how they were adjusting to school.

Dylan Cummings, 14, who is a ninth grader said, “I just want it to be summer again.”

Megan Colley, 15, also in ninth grade, agreed and when asked how she was adjusting to being back to school said, “not very well.”

Chris Feist, the dean of students at TJH had the opposite reaction.

“Well, I had a chance to introduce myself to new students and I had a sense that they were ready to go,” Feist said. “The students coming back are already pros and know about the high expectations and the high level of support we have at Tahoma Junior High.”

Even if students aren’t enjoying getting back in the school year routine, there are several clubs to get students engaged to make the year a bit more “Bear-able.”

Some clubs include: Tahoma Orienteering Club, Tahoma Women’s Lacrosse, the Green Team, FCCLA, Drama Club, the Military Veterans Club, the Mountain Bike Club, Speech and Debate Club, Robotics, the Ski Club, Be The Change, the Needlework Club, the Video Club, the Anime Club, and the Gay-Straight Alliance.

These clubs start at varying times during the first month of school and continue throughout the year.
