Many teed it high in support of veterans

The Jade Greens Women’s Club and Jade Greens Golf Course held the second annual fund-raising “Tee It Up For Our Troops” golf tournament on July 9. All proceeds from this tournament go directly to support the gym therapy patients with equipment at American Lake Veterans Hospital, which is a regional hospital near Tacoma treating our returning and current veteran population of the Northwest.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the local businesses for their generous contributions that helped make this tournament such a great success. We raised $2,400 and are now able to continue providing education and exercise tools to aid in our soldiers’ return to civilian life.

A big thank you to all of the following companies: Auburn Volkswagon, KCTS Public Television, Johnson’s Hardware, Rooters Barbeque, Riverbend Golf Course, Rottles department store, Puerto Vallarta, Covington Creek Nursery, The Rock, Eden’s Gate, The Swinging Arm, Daniel Ross Salon, The Beach, Draft Choice, Jade Greens, American Legion, Jeff Rominger (Professional Golfers Association pro), Julian Slane (PGA pro) and Kestrel Vinters and Windfall Cellars.

Thanks also to all who participated. We are looking forward to making this tournament even bigger and better next year.

Connecting on utility tax and cell phones

I have read a number of letters to the editor regarding the city of Covington’s utility tax being applied to Verizon cell phone customers residing outside of the city boundaries. I have also received a number of e-mails and phone calls from constituents asking for help to resolve this issue.

Working with the city and Verizon, I believe that we have addressed the issue.Verizon was able to fix a glitch in their system, and customers outside the city’s limits should no longer have the charge on their bills. If anyone continues to have problems with this issue, please feel free to give me a call at my office in Olympia (360-786-7858) or locally, (253-740-6772).
