Santa is coming to Black Diamond

Santa is on his way to the Black Diamond Community Center. On Dec. 2 Santa will arrive at the center, along with holiday lights, caroling, hot chocolate and cookies.

The holiday season in Black Diamond will kick off with this event. It begins at 6 p.m. at the Community Center. The event is free and includes pictures with Santa. For questions, call Cheryl Hanson at 360-886-1011

I love the Cedar River meeting Nov. 16

King County, the King County Flood Control District and the Cedar River Council co-host the sixth-annual, I love the Cedar River community meeting and open house. The meeting is planned for Nov. 16 in Maple Valley.

Residents can learn about flood-risk reduction and restoration projects and related activities on the Cedar River.

The meeting is set for 6-8:30 p.m. at the Lake Wilderness Lodge in Maple Valley. The annual meeting provides a state-of-the-river update for the community. It covers the latest projects, a question-and-answer session and opportunities for residents to talk to a variety of people involved with the Cedar River.

Reindeer Dash 5K for Food

Covington’s Hollydaze Reindeer Dash 5K for Food is a 5K to raise money and food for Storehouse and the Maple Valley Food Bank.

Registration is $5 or 5 non-perishable food items. Preregistration is not required. The event takes place on Dec. 3 starting at 8 a.m. to register and the run starts at 8:30 a.m. Goody bags will be handed out to the first 100 participants.

The event is sponsored by the Kent Firefighters Foundation with support from the East Hill Jr. Grange. Check-in will be in the Valley Medical Center North Clinic parking lot, by city hall.

Free groceries for Thanksgiving

The annual Big Give for Thanksgiving is approaching. Every year, free groceries to make a Thanksgiving meal are given away to hundreds of people in the community who are in need of a Thanksgiving meal.

Through the generosity of local schools, businesses, and the people of Solid Rock Community Church will be giving out 225 Thanksgiving meals this year.

The Big Give will take place on Nov. 19 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Kentwood High School cafeteria. If you or anyone you know needs food, please come to the Big Give.
