Washington State trooper from Maple Valley injured in collision on state Route 167 caused by alleged drunk driver

A patrol car was struck while completing an investigation causing a second driver to be arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence according to a release for the Washington State Patrol.

At about 3:30 a.m. today, May 21, the driver of a red BMW, a 24 year old Auburn female, was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI after she drove into the back of a patrol car stopped on the right shoulder of southbound state Route 167 just south of 37th street in Auburn.

The trooper, from Maple Valley,  was on a traffic stop and had a 36-year-old woman in custody for suspicion of DUI in his back seat when his patrol car was struck.  The trooper received minor injuries and was transported to Auburn Hospital for treatment.  Both arrested drivers received only minor injuries in the collision.

The original traffic stop happened around 3 a.m. when a white Ford Focus was stopped on the right shoulder and the driver, a 36 year old Auburn female, was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.  The trooper was waiting for the tow truck with his emergency lights on when the collision happened.
