Valley Girls & Guys, a local team which will participate in the Susan G. Komen Foundation 3Day Walk for the Cure in September, has already surpassed its 2010 fundraising amount — which was the most of any team in the country.

This team walks in the 3Day to fight against and raise awareness of all cancers.

At the team’s most recent fundraiser in March, which was sponsored in large part by Valley Medical Center’s women’s health and wellness program GLOW, more than $90,000 was raised.

With the help of numerous sponsors for the evening, the event was paid for completely, so 100 percent of the money raised went to Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Items were donated for both the live and silent auctions as well as the raffle by dozens of businesses and individuals.

Steffanie Fain spoke during the fundraiser for the team — held at Green River Community College — which now has more than 140 members.

In 2010 with 83 walkers, the team raised $204,000, but this year the team is almost twice that size and has already raised more than $200,000 and is closing in on the team goal of $250,000.

Right now the team is looking for T-shirt sponsors. The team likes to be unified during the walk by wearing the same shirts.
