A list of “warm, safe, and dry” projects to be done this summer have been presented to the Tahoma School District School Board.
The projects will begin after school gets out for the summer in mid June and will be paid for by funds from the school bond that was passed in November and by a grant related to energy efficiency from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.
The estimated cost for the projects is $3 million, with the exact cost to be determined after bids are awarded according to district spokesman Kevin Patterson. The grant from OSPI is for $258,000, which will pay for building weatherization and lighting improvements at several of the schools.
At Rock Creek Elementary the project list includes siding and paint, siding and paint for the play shed, roofing for the play shed, HVAC controls and exterior lighting upgrades.
At Glacier Park Elementary the list includes siding and paint for the school building and the play shed, HVAC controls, and exterior lighting upgrades.
Cedar River Middle School projects will also be siding and pain, roofing, HVAC controls, exterior lighting upgrades and building weatherization.
Tahoma Middle School will get building weatherization. Tahoma Junior High will also get building weatherization and exterior lighting upgrades, as will Tahoma High School.
Work is also planned for the Central Services Center. Those projects will include siding and paint, roofing, exterior lighting upgrades and building weatherization.
This summer the district will prioritize projects that require good weather like painting, siding and roofs, Patterson said. The goal is to have all the projects completed by the time school starts in September, but if not, Patterson said they will be completed as quickly as possible.
Neither Shadow Lake Elementary or Lake Wilderness Elementary will have work done at this time.
Next up for the school board related to bond related projects is an expected vote on the design of the new Tahoma High School Tuesday night, after the Reporter’s press deadline.
