In a project next week that could cause lengthy detours for motorists, King County road crews are scheduled to replace a culvert beneath Kent-Black Diamond Road south of Covington.

The road will be closed in the 30000 block from 7 a.m. Monday through 4 p.m. June 28. Motorists can take detour via State Route 18 and Auburn-Black Diamond Road, according to the county’s road services department.

During the closure, crews will install a larger culvert. The existing culvert has cracked and deteriorated to the point where water is leaking into soil, undermining the roadway and the road’s shoulder, officials said. They said if the old culvert isn’t replaced, the road could collapse.
