Rainer Youth Choirs’ Primo Voce wins first

Covington-based Rainier Youth Choirs’ youngest ensemble won the top award at the adjudicated Music in the Park Festival last weekend, June 7 and 8, in Federal Way.

The second and third graders received a “superior” rating by both judges in their category and brought home the trophy.

The awards ceremony was held at Wild Waves after a fun day in the park.

Primo Voce sang selections usually performed by much older groups including: Betinis’s “Be Like the Bird,” a three part a cappella canon with text by Victor Hugo, Sarasponda, a Dutch folk song, Boshkov and A Menagerie of Songs by Jennings.

Auditions for fall enrollment in Primo Voce, grades second to fourth, and for RYC’s other three choir levels for grades 5 and up are being scheduled now. Singers from all area communities are eligible and are also invited to participate in RYC’s 8th annual Summer Choir Day Camp, Aug. 5-8 in Kent.
