Maple Valley Parks & Recreation Camp Wild Day registration opens 8 a.m. Wednesday

Maple Valley Parks & Recreation will again offer Camp Wild Day, a nine-week summer day camp for girls and boys ages 6 through 11. Registration opens at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the office located in Lake Wilderness Lodge.

The 2009 fee is $165 per week with before and after care available at an addition cost of $25 per day or $45 for all 5 days of camp. More information and forms are available at www.maplevalleyparks.com.

ProTow at Four Corners is the 2009 community sponsor for Camp Wild Day.

Each week will follow a theme to provide focus and direction to each session. The week of fun and education will include, but is not limited to swimming, arts and crafts, hiking, canoeing, two field trips, special entertainment, speakers, playing on inflatable’s and much more.

• Week No. 1 – June 22 – 26

Around the World – Character Connection – Compassion

Travel with us around the world in five days as we discover new ideas, cultures and fun adventures from around the globe. Each day we will experience a new culture from a different continent through food, stories and play.

Events include a tour of Pike Place Market and Kubota Gardens picnic, both in Seattle.

• Week No. 2 – June 29 – July 3

Shooting Stars – Character Connection – Respect

It’s time to perform and be in the spotlight. Come show us what you’ve got. This week we will uncover hidden talents. You can be more than you’ve ever dreamed. From a movie star to an engineer, this week is about showcasing your special talents.

Events include AMC movies and Gene Coulon Memorial Park in Renton.

• Week No. 3 – July 6 – July 10

Blast from the Past – Character Connection – Honesty

“Turn Back the Clock” and see what the world was like in the past. Tie-dying T-shirts will be the highlight. We will learn about the different time periods through songs, games, and events from decades or centuries we choose. Whether it is taking part in a 50’s sock hop or enjoying some 70’s flower power each time has something special about it. We will construct a “time machine” to capture our own moment in time.

Events include Fort Nisqually Living History Museum in Tacoma and Lynnwood Heritage Park picnic.

• Week No. 4 – July 13 – July 17

Sports Legends – Character Connection – Cooperation

Play ball, soccer, tennis or any sport. Not only is it important to do your best when you try new sports, but it is also important to understand the rules of being a “good sport” no matter how the game goes. Learn about and try a sport that you’ve never played before.

Events include a tour of Qwest Field in Seattle and a Tacoma Rainiers game

• Week No. 5 – July 20 – July 24

Creature Feature – Character Connection – Courage

Animals, animals and more animals, come live on the wild side. This week we’ll learn about animals from the big and fierce to the creepy crawly. We’ll have more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

Events include Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, Kelsey Creek community park in Bellevue.

• Week No. 6 – July 27 – July 31

Magical Mayhem – Character Connection – Perseverance

From goblins to princesses, this week will be full of fun, adventure and fairy dust. This is the week to create and perform in a splendid fashion. Nothing is too outrageous to try.

Events include StoryBook Theater, Boehms Chocolate Factory tour in Issaquah.

• Week No. 7 – August 3 – August 7

Gluez and Gooz – Character Connection – Resourcefulness

Are you a closet mad scientist? Do you like to make a mess and create wonderful stews and brews? Let’s spend the week concocting something awesomely disgusting. Get ready for an explosive week of fun. Whahahaha!

Events include Pacific Science Center in Seattle and Renton Aquatic Center.

• Week No. 8 – August 10 – August 14

Imagine – Character Connection – Positive Attitude

This unique experience combines arts and crafts, personal responsibility, environmental awareness and fun. If you can visualize it, you can create it.  Let’s find out what a budding artist really looks like. Not the artistic type? That’s OK. Use your talents in a different way.

Events include Creation Station in Lynnwood and Seattle Tilth Garden

• Week No. 9 – August 17 – August 21

Planes, Trains and Automobiles – Character Connection – Citizenship

Let’s take a look around and investigate the things that make us go. We may even make some of our own. Buckle up for an awesome week of speed and fun.

Events include Snoqualmie Railroad Museum and Train Ride, Police and Fire Department visits and a special guest appearance by our sponsor ProTow.
