Maple Valley offers parks survey

City wishes to meet families’ needs for parks

The city of Maple Valley began an update to its Parks, Recreation, Arts and Open Space Plan (PRAOS).

This new plan will establish a path forward for providing high quality, community-driven parks, trails, natural areas, public art and recreation offerings in Maple Valley for the coming six years, according to a press release from the city.

The current Plan (2013-2019) was adopted in early 2014 and has been a guide for growing Maple Valley’s park and recreation system.

The release also stated resident input is crucial to ensure recreational goals and priorities are consistent with community needs and desires.

There will be several opportunities for community members to participate in the Parks, Recreation, Arts and Open Space Plan update, including a community survey, public meetings, stakeholder discussions and an online community forum.

This process provides an opportunity to identify ways to best serve the recreational needs of the growing Maple Valley community over the next six years, the release said.

“Part of our mission is to be responsive to the needs of the community so that we can continue to enhance the quality of life and build community here in Maple Valley,” Parks and Recreation Director Dave Johnson said. “This PRAOS Plan process helps us to do that and we are excite to see where it takes us for the six to 10 years.”

The online survey is available now on the city’s website and review and adoption of the updated PRAOS Plan is anticipated for February 2020.
