Local men finish Army combat training in South Carolina

Army Reserve Pvt. Kyle Shomaker of Maple Valley and Army National Guard Pvt. Gregory Livell of the Kent-Covington area have graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

Army Reserve Pvt. Kyle Shomaker of Maple Valley and Army National Guard Pvt. Gregory Livell of the Kent-Covington area have graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

Officials said the nine weeks of training included physical fitness, instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, the military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Shomaker is the son of Susan Shomaker of Maple Valley.

Livell is the son of Barbara Roderick.
