Local man with Peace Corps in Cambodia

James Hong, 24, a former Kentwood High School Student, is training in Cambodia to be a Peace Corps volunteer.

Hong left for Cambodia July 22. Starting this fall, he’ll teach English, develop educational materials and help organize after-school clubs and programs for two years.

During the first three months of his service, he will live with a host family.

Hong is one of 363 Washington residents currently serving in the Peace Corps, raising to 7,911 the number of Washingtonians who have served since 1961.

Hong is the son of Nam and Huong Hong. After graduating fron Kentwood, he attended the University of Washington, where he graduated this year with a degree in educational psychology.
