Playground closed until end of the month

The Lake Wilderness Park playground will be closed for renovation now through Dec. 29.

According to a release, the old equipment will be removed in order to make room for the new.

A ribbon cutting is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29.

Free firewood available

The Alliance Bible Church is Covington is offering free firewood to elderly and disabled people with a financial need living in Maple Valley, Covington, Black Diamond or Hobart.

The wood is already spilt and dry and ready for use.

It can be delivered free of charge.

Preregistration open for kindergarten

Now through Jan. 10 parents can preregister their children for kindergarten with the Tahoma School District.

To complete the preregistration, visit www.tahomasd.us and click on “Preregister for kindergarten” under “Quick Links.”

A registration packet will be mailed out to families in January. During the week of Jan. 22-26, parents can bring back the completed packet to their elementary school to finalize registration.

Children who will be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2018 are eligible to register.

Wreaths Across America this Saturday

At 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 members of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter, A-One, No. 33 and local boy scout troops will gather to place wreaths on the graves of 115.

Covington Walmart hosted Shop with a Cop

On Dec. 9 more than 90 members of the King County Sheriff’s Office as well as other local, state and federal law enforcement members volunteered their time for this annual event.

This year, according to a media release, more than 600 kids from 6 months to 15 years old got $50 to spend on presents and got to meet Santa.

The event was hosted by the Maple Valley and Covington Rotary Clubs, the Soup Ladies, Black Diamond Kiwanis, InterAct THS, Black Diamond Eagles along with a number of donations made by local businesses.
