A large group of brave souls jumped into Lake Sawyer at noon New Year’s Day for the annual polar bear jump.

A check of the temperature shortly before the event had the temperature at 29 degrees and the water temperature at 48.

Kevin Carney from Covington went in twice. The first when the crowd ran in and the second a few minutes later at the urging of his friend.

“The first time wasn’t bad,” Carney said. “The second time it sucked.”

Niklas Henning, 11, who attends Sawyer Woods Elementary said, “It wasn’t that cold after my legs were numb.”
