Groundbreaking ceremony for phase 2 of Covington Community Park

The following is a press release from the Covington Communications manager.

The city of Covington conducted its ground breaking ceremony for Phase 2 of Covington Community Park on Aug. 22.

Mayor Jeff Wagner, along with Rep. Pat Sullivan, Rep. Mark Hargrove and Congressman Dave Reichert, attended the event.

Major elements of the second phase include additions of a community stage with a green roof, a large lawn, picnic shelters, a playground, a fitness area with exercise stations, a tennis court, restrooms and more, including frontage improvements along 180th Ave SE.

Areas of the park, such as the play field, will remain open during construction as much as possible, but sections of the park will be closed as needed to complete the work.

Phase 1 of Covington Community Park was completed June 2013.

Since that time, many park users have enjoyed playing sports on the athletic field and walking the nature trails. In the future, there will be a third and final phase of development at the park, but it currently is not funded. The most significant feature of the third phase will be the addition of synthetic turf athletic fields with lighting.
