Covington City Council honors the Foss family

The Covington City Council honored its history Tuesday at the council meeting by naming a roundabout after a local landmark.

The council approved the naming of the roundabout at Southeast 256th and 164th Avenue East after the Foss family who has owned the Foss Grocery and Feed store since 1923.

Sonja Foss is current owner of the grocery store located at 16255 S.E. 256th S.

Mayor Margaret Harto said Sonja’s grandfather opened the store in the 1920s.

“My children used to walk through the fields to buy penny candy from Sonja Foss’ father,” Harto said. “Those were the days.”

Councilman Mark Lanza said, “That little store is like the community welcome wagon. I love when we have the chance to honor the past in our city.”

The members approved the naming of the roundabout unanimously.
